Questions, answered plainly.
Water cremation is still new to many families, veterinarians, and funeral directors. Here are the questions we hear most — about the process, the technology, and what makes Fireless Cremation® different.
Understanding water cremation
Water cremation, technically known as alkaline hydrolysis, is an alternative to flame cremation. Instead of fire, the process uses water and controlled conditions to return the body to its basic elements — essentially accelerating a natural process that occurs over time.
Fireless Cremation® systems use a patented process in which alcohol acts as a co-solvent, helping achieve complete dissolution and sterile remains at atmospheric pressure, in less than 5.5 hours,at 160°F, and without flame or high pressure.
A typical cycle runs 4–5.5 hours. That consistency helps funeral homes plan and schedule services with confidence.
The process completes dissolution of soft tissue 100% of the time, including fat, marrow, and brain matter. Bone remains, twice as much as typically returned from a petrochemical cremation, can be returned to the family. The essence, the non-bones, can be returned to the family too. The essence is regenerative for the earth. It is potassium-acetate,a powerful plant biostimulant, with some extra nutrients. The return of the bone remains and the esssence allow families to opt between two additional final disposition options: an aqua burial or an aqua organic reduction. In both of these options, the family receives 100% of their loved one.
Fireless Cremation® systems support three wonderful end-of-life options: Fireless Cremation®, Aqua Burial, and Aqua Organic Reduction. Families now have more ways to honor a life.
Fireless Cremation® vs. the alternatives
No. Aquamation® is a registered trademark of Bio-Response Solutions, and we are direct competitors — both companies manufacture and sell alkaline hydrolysis systems, but the technology and results differ. Fireless Cremation® systems work as advertised. They are built around our patented Fireless Cremation® process, with complete dissolution, and consistent 4–5.5 hour cycles.
We're confident enough in the difference that we offer the $1,500 Challenge: compare our system to an Aquamation system in person, and if you still choose Aquamation afterward, we'll pay you $1,500. Ask us for details about this challenge.
There's no combustion, no flame or smoke, and the process produces no direct air emissions. With petrochemical cremation 95% of the body is spewed out a smokestack exposing survivors to toxic and harmful emissions. Fireless Cremation® uses 95% less energy than flame cremation and hundreds of gallons less water than conventional water cremation systems. Fireless Cremation provides the most sustainable funeral options.
Yes. Our systems serve both markets — the FC220 is built for pet aftercare, and the FC440 can handle both pets and humans.
Bringing Fireless Cremation® into your business
Pricing depends on the system and your market. Contact us for current options, financing, and a detailed explanation of what's included. Our pricing is under $200,000.
Our systems are designed for streamlined installation and operation. Typically a space 10'x 10'is sufficient. The layout can be custom designed.
The fireless design eliminates refractory costs and rebricking — recurring expenses associated with traditional retort cremation — helping reduce maintenance and downtime. Since 2019, the longest any of our operating systems was down was 3-days.
Compliance and approval
Alkaline hydrolysis is legally recognized in a growing number of states and countries, but requirements vary by jurisdiction and continue to evolve. We work directly with funeral directors to help identify the applicable approval and compliance requirements for their location.
Our technology is protected under U.S. Patent No. 11,826,803, with additional patents granted in China, Japan, and Australia, and further applications pending in multiple jurisdictions.
